COVENT GARDEN, 1730s. The triumph of John Rich, who built Covent Garden theater in London, England, and John Gay, whose 1728 'Beggar's Opera,' transferred to the theater after its opening in the early 1730s, 'made Gay rich and Rich gay.' Contemporary English copper engraving.
